The Beastles
The Beastles are the project of dj BC and is (as the name suggests) a mashup of the Beatles and Beastie Boys. I first found out about them from a friend and after hearing "Whatcha Want Lady" I found out myself that this not only works and is really cool, but was my introduction to mashups in general. Here is a fun collection of songs from both the albums Let It Beast and dj BC presents The Beastles. It presents a new way to listen to and enjoy both the Beatles and the Beastie Boys in ways you might not have imagined.
1. Let It Beast
2. Hold It Together Now
3. Buildin My Life
4. Love To Check You Out
5. Tripper Trouble

Something a bit different-- local stuff
A small collection of a few bands out of/well known in the Nashville-Murfreesboro area. Basically, groups that made me realize that good stuff is still being made.
If you look into one band from this collection, look into Wax Fang. Though they don't call Nashville their home, they play the local venues enough to be considered honorary citizens. Their most recent album, La La Land, is often compared to The Wall, with frontman Scott Carney playing the part of Roger Waters. Truly a great band with some solid output, particularly the aforementioned La La Land.
1. The Doctor Will See You Now
2. World War II (Pt. II)
3. Cannibal Summer
I'm not exactly sure how to describe these guys. But I like them. I like them quite a bit. Definitely the most underappreciated of all these groups.
1. Cowboy Jazz
2. Puppetry
-How I Became the Bomb
Pop. Very much pop. Not exactly my thing, but worth a listen.
1. Mothership
2. Harvest
Yes. These guys again. Basically the reason I looked into any of the other groups, and still my favorite of the bunch, this is a track off the second half (the 80s power ballad side; the other is like Spaghetti Western Robots or something) of their second album.
1. Light Up the Night

Dogmatics
A Boston-based alternative band, the Dogmatics never saw any significant or even minor success. They only released 2 albums on Homestead, and one self-released single.
The band was formed by brotehrs Peter (vocals) and Paul (bass) O'Halloran, and lifelong friend Jerry Lehane (guitar), as well as 2 different drummers in their five year career, Tommy Long the most notable as he played on all of the bands released material.
While the band had some influence over the Boston alternative scene, their career was cut short when Paul died in a motorcycle accident. The band broke-up, and became all but forgotten over the years.
They could be characterized by their strong wit, introspective lyrics, and noted rockabilly and hardcore punk influences. Here's a track listing for the mix:
1. Sister Serena
2. Mtv O.D.
3. King Size Cigarette
4. Gimme the Shakes
5. Pussy Whipped
6. Teenage Lament
7. Saturday Night Again
8. Drinking By the Pool
9. Thayer St.
10. Tell Me
11. Rockabilly Ramble
12. Sex Bomb

Post-Punk Mix
Becoming the first major spin-off from punk, post-punk was more experimental in nature than it's predecessor. For a few years, the terms new wave and post-punk were semi-interchangeable, but both developed into their own unique style, though there was some overlap. The first bands that could be described as definitively post-punk in sound were bands like Television, Magazine, and The Pop Group. Other bands that were once part of the movement headed for the more commercial friendly new wave sound, like Talking Heads and Devo. All of these bands laid the groundwork for alternative rock, and many of them were later considered to be the first alt. groups.
Here's a track listing:
1. Gimme the Shakes by Dogmatics
2. Transmission by Joy Division
3. Definitive Gaze by Magazine
4. Blow Daddy-O by Pere Ubu
5. Swamp Thing by The Chameleons
6. Elizabeth Montgomery's Face by The Embarrassment
7. Loveless Love by The Feelies
8. She Is Beyond Good and Evil by The Pop Group
9. Old Pervert by The Soft Boys
10. Descent Into Hell by Volcano Suns
